TMS Goes Green

AWE

TMS is proud to be one of the “greenest” transportation providers in the nation. Join TMS in taking the initiative to better our environment while maintaining superior service.

TMS does everything possible on and off the curb to ensure events have minimal negative impact on the environment, while limiting costs. TMS is leading the fight for environmentally friendly operations worldwide.

TMS has successfully implemented an innovative Carbon Offset Shuttle Program that provides a negative carbon footprint from ground transportation. The TMS Carbon Offset Shuttle Program manages and computes the logistical onsite shuttle information and creates a post show tally of the number of gallons of diesel each bus burned along with the number of numeric tons of each bus emitted.

About TMS

TMS Carbon Offset Program Goals

  • Eliminate the carbon footprint from TMS-provided ground transportation systems
  • Provide resources and information that allow clients to communicate and educate their attendees on the green programs they have established
  • Donate to verified carbon offset projects on behalf of our clients

TMS Carbon Offset Projects

TMS clients can choose which project they would like to support or a collaboration of all three:

  • Renewable Energy – supports clean energy development, such as wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass.
  • Energy Efficiency – reduces existing energy use, much of which comes from coal, oil, and natural gas.
  • Reforestation – absorbs existing CO2 emissions, which helps to reduce the excess greenhouse gases in the atmosphere

TMS and the Environment

  • The TMS corporate office is proud to have a green roof, limiting energy waste by reducing heating and cooling loads on the building. Our “vegetated roof” also reduces pollutants in rainwater and the air.
  • TMS senior management continues to explore options for biodiesel service and distribution centers.
  • We continue to expand our research on biodiesel fuels by supporting the efforts of Biodiesel University, one of the nation’s leading authorities on the methodologies and benefits of using biodiesel fuels.
  • TMS Account Managers and Operations Supervisors are ensuring efficient passenger-to-coach ratios, and confirming with bus operators that tires are inflated properly, fuel caps are fitted correctly, and bus idling time is limited through the use of our GPS-based Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) proprietary units.
  • In 2008, TMS planted one live Blue Spruce tree for every 20 bus days contracted. One Blue Spruce can convert approximately 600 pounds of harmful pollution into oxygen, as well as save more than $1,000 in storm water management, pollution and energy costs.

Case Study

016532_nba_logoTMS and the National Basketball Association (NBA) successfully completed an innovative Carbon Offset Shuttle Transportation Program implemented during the 2009 NBA All-Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona.

The TMS Carbon Offset Shuttle Transportation Program generates, manages and evaluates the on-site ground transportation sequences into a post-show analysis that calculates the number of tons of carbon emitted. During the 2009 NBA All-Star Game, TMS and their partner, Carbonfund.org calculated that 209.47 metric tons of carbon were emitted due to shuttle services. The total tons of carbon emitted in 2009 were less than previous NBA All-Star Games, as TMS ensured efficiency in all manners of bus operations and limited wasteful procedures. In the spring, TMS also planted more than 30 Blue Spruce trees to compliment their Carbon Offset program for the 2009 NBA All-Star Game. Each Blue Spruce tree can convert over 600 pounds of harmful pollution into oxygen and can save more than $1,000 in storm water management, pollution and energy costs.

Not only did TMS offset every gallon of fuel used during the shuttle transportation portion of the 2009 NBA All-Star Game, but the NBA also purchased carbon credits for the energy consumed at the U.S. Airways Center and Phoenix Convention Center during events leading up to the NBA All-Star Game.

Due to the success of the TMS Carbon Offset Program in 2008 and 2009, TMS extends this complimentary program to any association, corporation or event organizer that procures TMS as their shuttle transportation provider in 2010 and beyond.

TMS is proud to be one of the greenest transportation providers in the nation and the recipient of the AWE 2011 and 2010 EcoLeadership Awards. Join TMS in taking the initiative to better our planet while maintaining superior service.
